Adaptable Apprenticeships
November marks Colorado’s Apprenticeship month, where we celebrate the state’s movement to find new opportunities for businesses and employees alike to work together to build solid foundations for apprenticeships and other programs in skilled trade businesses around the state.
Apprenticeship programs can be a great way for businesses and potential employees to come together and figure out the best way to educate, train, and retain for growth and stability on both ends.
As college degrees become more expensive, many high school students and graduates have expressed their hesitancy and caution in obtaining higher education in that traditional sense.
In fact, a recent survey shows that 35% of students don’t believe higher education is necessary. Where we were once fed the narrative that only a college education can get you a good job, this is no longer the case.
That same survey mentioned above also tells us that 63% of teens are open to other options than just a 4-year degree.
Now that skilled trades have become higher in demand for employees, apprenticeship programs have been shown to be a great avenue into industries many haven’t considered before.
While college classes and lectures can help educate a person, apprenticeships offer not just lessons in the theory of the chosen industry, but also offer hands-on experience and on-the-job training. Even more, you get paid while you train!
Apprenticeships may seem like an internship, but in many ways they are similar. However, internships typically only offer training for that specific organization. Apprenticeships are structured programs designed to provide training, knowledge, and experience toward a specific career path in a particular industry.

Here at ArborScape, we take our apprenticeship program seriously. We work with the Colorado Tree Care Sector Partnership and other affiliate companies to learn from and share with each other our knowledge and experiences with apprenticeship programs.
It’s through working together that we’re also able to share and provide resources with other businesses to help encourage more apprenticeships that ensure thorough teaching and training in a safe environment.
We welcome people from all walks of life and are happy to educate those willing and eager to learn about tree care and arbory.
And the great thing about our arborist apprenticeship program is that you don’t have to stick to tree removal once you’ve completed the program. While part of apprenticeship programs is to retain employees, we also hope to encourage an individual’s growth and success in the industry.
Despite tree care being a luxury, learning under certified arborists will give you insight into the industry and ample opportunities to grow.
Whether you start your own tree business, work in a plant nursery, or even get into forestry legislation, an arborist apprenticeship could be the perfect foundation to start your journey into arboriculture.
